Laura Dance and Cultural Festival
Black Image was the special
guest highlight at the Laura Dance and Cultural Festival in June
2005.
A celebration of the local dance and arts from across the Cape
York region, thousands of people from across Australia and the
world come to Laura to celebrate the diverse and unique talents of
the many different Indigenous communities participating.
This internationally acclaimed festival is a biennial event, held
at the Laura festival grounds, the traditional dance ground
situated about 300 kilometres north of Cairns. The dance ground is
nestled in a valley at the foothills of the Split Rock sandstone
escarpment.
Participators included the Traditional Owners of the area, the
Kuku Yalanji, as well as people coming from places such as Injinoo,
Mossman, Lockhart River, Mornington Island, Woorabinda, Coen,
Aurukun, Umagico and Kowanyama.
